Amazon parrots are among the more popular medium-sized parrot species, which might have something to do with their gregarious personalities.
Pet Amazon parrots are affectionate and highly intelligent, and they have a playful streak. They can also be temperamental and noisy if not appropriately trained. Blue-fronted Amazons are considered the best talkers of the Amazon family, the double-yellow-head and yellow-naped species following closest behind.
All species of Amazon parrots are long-lived as most large birds are. You can expect a healthy Amazon to live around 50 years or even longer with proper nutrition and care, so plan accordingly.
Growing up to 18 inches in length from the beak to the ends of the tailfeathers, the Amazon parrot is one of the larger bird species commonly kept as pets. Because of this, they require a rather spacious cage and plenty of room to fly, play, and exercise.
Like other large parrots, Amazons need a variety of toys that they can throw, chew, climb, and swing on. They are brilliant birds that quickly become bored if left to their own devices, so they are recommended for owners who love to play and are looking for a pet with which they can spend a lot of time interacting and socializing.
Our Amazon Parrots are gorgeous and intelligent birds recognized for their talking and singing abilities. Amazons are typically show-offs and love to be the center of attention! These parrots are also known to have very outgoing and sometimes stubborn personalities. They can be great talkers. As with any amazon, training is critical. Future owners must work with Amazons consistently for them to stay tame. Every hand fed baby is weaned on to a high variety diet.
As pets amazon parrots are very loyal, however, they require a lot of attention, nurturing, guidance, and training to keep them from developing undesirable behaviors, like biting and screaming. Amazon parrots love to chew, so they need lots of destructible toys to satisfy their instincts.
In the Amazon parrot family, we have only ten types, which we hand raise and tame as pets. These exotic pets are a long-term commitment, as they can live for up to 50 years. They are not especially hard to care for but do require some specific care needs and are only suited for the right households that are ready for a long-term commitment.
We feed our Amazon Parrots a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, fresh kale, broccoli, carrots, apples, and peppers. All fruits and vegetables must be thoroughly washed to remove any harmful chemicals before being fed to the bird. We also supply a variety of Uccello seeds, pellets, and nuts. Feeding pet birds the right foods is essential for their health. A balanced diet based on sound bird nutrition recommendations is the key. Balancing a parrot’s menu from the beginning may prevent many health and behavior problems. When feeding pet birds, we must realize that the species of birds we have as companion pets do not all have the same dietary needs.
