Quakers parrots, also known as the Monk Parakeets are energetic, goofy and playful. They can learn to talk and typically love affection. They enjoy being out of the cage and can make strong bonds with their human companions. Quakers can make wonderful “starter birds” but also can be a wonderful addition to an existing flock. Ideally, the minimum cage size for this bird would be 25’’ long, 21’’ wide and 29’’ high with ½’’ wire spacing.
Monk Parakeet is known for its charming, comical personalities and their willingness to learn human speech. It is an excellent choice for bird lovers who want all the fun of a large parrot in a smaller package. They are a very popular pet, suitable for dedicated beginners.
These medium-sized birds can live up to 30 years and more if well-taken care.
Keeping their cage in the main living area of your home and spending lots of time with these birds will make them feel more a part of the goings-on of the household.
Diet
We feed our Quaker Parrot on a varied diet of pellet food, fresh fruits and vegetables, and occasional seed mixes. Variety is the key to a healthy diet. They also need clean water daily as they often play in and soil their drinking water.
Temperament
Monk Parakeet is a very confident and social bird. They love to interact with their “flock” and are known around the world for their exceptional talking ability. In captivity, they tend to bond very closely with one person and are known for their true nature. Most hand-fed Quaker Parrot is quite gentle, and many make beautiful pets for younger bird owners.
Nature of the Quaker Parrot
The Quaker Parrots are very smart, curious, fun-loving, and energetic creatures. They love to play with their toys, swings, and bells. They can entertain themselves for hours practicing their chirps, whistles, and human vocalizations.
Quakers need to be well socialized with the whole family to avoid them becoming a one-person bird.
